17th Century Plague Ring
The Great Plague of London took place between 1665 to 1666. This plague symptoms, including fever, delirium, vomiting, muscle cramps and coughing up blood.
These rings were given to and worn by children who were told that this ring would protect them from this plague. Needless to say, these pieces of jewelry did not stop contraction of the infectious disease. It is not clear how many people caught the disease and made a recovery because only deaths were recorded and many records were destroyed in the Great Fire of London the following year. In the few districts where intact records remain, plague deaths varied between 30% and over 50% of the total population. While 68,596 deaths were recorded in the city, the true number was most likely over 1000,00. Other parts of the country also suffered.
This ring is cleaned and restored with a certificate of authenticity for your records.
