The word "Planchette" is French for "little plank". These items are heart shaped, which allows letters to be pointed to using the tip or to read through the hole in the center, typically with glass.
This particular planchette is 1920's in the box and in near perfect condition, minus the glass piece in the center.
The Ouija board experienced a large surge in popularity during the Victorian era, as many were much more accepting of death and open to the possibilities of being able to talk to the spirits after loved ones had passed on.
